El Yunque National Forest - Historical Documentation
The project included various structures and facilities located within the limits of El Yunque National Forest; some of the structures date back to the 1940's. The description of the work included historical research, as-built surveys, condition assessments, improvements cost estimates, photographic documentation and preparation of HABS (Historic American Buildings Survey) documentation. Historical research was accomplished through interviews with former Civilian Conversation Corps workers and Forest Service employees, investigation of historical documentation and review of audiovisual material. Historical plans and maps were compared to document changes throughout the years. Among the structures and facilities included were Old Aviary/ARMY Barracks, Palo Colorado Picnic Area, Sierra Palm Picnic Area, Mt. Britton Tower, Yocahu Tower, and Stone House.
