International Institute of Tropical Forestry Headquarters Reform
RMA prepared Section 106 for the 5 acres land leased by the University of Puerto Rico to the USDA Forest Service - International Institute of Tropical Forestry (IITF). Of the eight buildings evaluated only the Main Building or Headquarters was found to be eligible for the National Register of Historic Properties.
Following the determination, a Master Plan for the restoration of the Main Building and its surrounding site was developed. The State Historic Preservation Office approved the Master Plan that would be built in stages. The goal was to bring back the beauty of the original 1940’s building with certain adjustments that would make it functional for its present use. Several sustainable design concepts were implemented and the project was certified as LEED® Gold. Client satisfaction was achieved and a new IDIQ contract with the agency was awarded for 5 years .
